Today is my first day attending school. it' not like anyone would want to make frinds with me since it's already the middle of the school term. I put on the stiff black leather coat over my white school blouse and tied a loose butterfly knot with the red string provided along with the uniform when it arrived in the mail yesterday. It's been roughly one month since Kanabe... Mukuro-sama, Joshima-san and Kakimoto-san were caught and taken away by the Vendice people. I initally wanted to go to Kokuyo Junior High with the three of them, but now that the school isn't going to have them around anymore, I went to a private school instead.I think the name of the school was 'Tsukiyume Private School'. It consisted of Elementary, Middle and High school sections. Since the school has ties with people in high places and abroad, you could choose to go to a variety of Universities either in Japan or overseas. Thus, a lot of the elite want their childen in here. Every year, the school accepts a maximum of 500 students. 480 slots are reserved for the elite, such as the children of famous singers, scientists, authors, actors, and even chefs. The remaining 20 is reserved for scholarship students. But still, even if you're the child of the president of Japan, if your scores in the entrace exam aren't high enough, you can't get in. The total score of all the exams together is 855. You need to score at least 685 or so I heard. But if you're going for just one profession such as Science, you just need to get a high score in subjects related to Science.
In my case, I could've just entered on the scholarship but my parents insisted that I be entered into the school as the daughter of "a famous and popular Japanese politician and a world-class actress". Like any of them would be popular with kids. The kids would be screaming for their own parents once they get dumped in a large empty room with practically only thick books to entertain them. And no, you're not allowed to build castles with the books.
Another thing they insisted on was that I be driven to school everyday. They didn't want 'the reputation of their daughter to be tarnished when people see her walking on the streets like a commoner.' My reputation? More like theirs. Oh yes, the school was located in Tokyo, so the ride from here to there is roughly half an hour... The car looked out of placed parked in front of my new house. The place was a simple and comfortable three-storey house. In fact, most of the houses here were either three or two storeyed. The neighbours were staring at the car and me as I got in. Embarrased adue to the people staring at me, I quickly got in and told the person to hurry up and close the door.
When we neared the school, I peeked out of the window and saw students standing outside the school. As we got nearer, I saw more students and noticed that they were holding signs and banners of sorts. Because of the students, the driver couldn't get too near the shcool and I got off somewhere close to the gate. When I got near the students, some gave me a sign to hold and told me to join the crowd quickly. I had completely no idea what was going on so I asked them before they left me.
"Um... What's going..."
"Ah... I guess you're the transfer student... To summarise everything up, some stuff happened, students got unhappy and since we're all good friends, we're all protesting together."
"... Police..."
"Eh...? EH?! Rifle club!! Get your rifles out!! Horse Riding Society seniors, give the fencers a ride when we attack!"
"Eh...?! Is there a need to be so... Violent...?"
"If we don't stand up to them, this school'll be sexist forever!"
"Eh...?"
"Well, I suppose I could tell you the whole situation now... You see, in this shcool, there are a lot of clubs that the girls can't join while the guys can. I can understand the uniformed groups but they even banned us from clubs like the AVA club, Horse Riding Society and even stuff like the Yearbook Club! We're expected to join and be interested in clubs like the Tea Ceromony Society, Embroidery Club and all that other girly stuff! Not all of us is interested in such stuff so why forced us to join? I seriously don't get what these stupid adults are doing!!'
"Um... Personally I-...'
They're gone... I got ignored again...I put the sign down on the ground and squeezed my way through the crowd to the gate. I ignored the protests from the other students and just headed inside the school building. Once inside, I followed the map on one of the walls and got to my classroom. Since the teachers were handling the protesting students, there wasn't anyone in class other than me. Thus, I simply put my bag down, left the classroom and started to wander around the school. They had everything a normal school had, but more. Such as a lounge with a self-serving snack bar, every desk being built with a laptop inside, the like. Just as I walked past the door of the library, I felt something familiar. I immediately opened the door and walked in. I followed my sixth sense but all I saw in the end was a Kokuyo student doing a part-time job by selving books. Just as I was about to leave, I noticed her hairstyle.
"Um..."
"Yes...?"
"... Why... Do you have that hairstyle..?"
"... It's... A form of... respect..."
"... For whom...?"
"..."
"is it... Mukuro-sama...?"
"You... know him?"
"Yes... He... Saved me from a place called 'eternal loneliness' once..."
"Mukuro-sama he... Saved me as well."
We both looked at each other in the eyes for the first time.
"I think... The both of us could be rather good friends..."
"... If you say so..."
"... What's your name?"
"Nagi."
"... What about your last name...?"
At this point, she blinked and looked down at her shoes for a while.
"... If you don't want to say it, it's alright. I don't like my own surname too, so I used a fake one... My name's Kirihana Yuki. It's a pleasure to meet you, Nagi-san."
"... Pleased to meet you, Yuki-san..."
